  • Spinal cord stimulator

I know a few of the members have had a spinal cord stimulator but I don't know too much about them. Like what they treat and if they help. Any information is welcomed.

I found out the name of the condition

Ok I found out the the name of the spinal condition that the neurosurgeon has identified. It is call arachnoiditis. Some of the symptoms fit. I will revisit him in mid February for another discussion. A spinal cord stimulator can be used to help this.
It sounds like I have an allergy to spiders . It gets it's name from the way the spinal cord looks.
If you look up information on it, it can set up after trauma or spine surgery or injection. I've had all of it.
Ed do you have any information on this?

Jackie, yes, I remember reading about a possible cause being from epidural injection’s and trauma from spine surgery.....

There are contacts at the bottom of this article
      https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/arachnoiditis/

Jenee’s mom has it....You might shoot her a PM for info and tell her we miss her!

They recommend hot water soaks....I know, I say this all the time.

I am sorry this has happened.....You have had a rough go.

      Hugs

New Treatment Gives Hope to Arachnoiditis Patients Dr Forrest Tennant

        https://www.painnewsnetwork.org/stor...ditis-patients

One discovery is the role that specialized cells in the brain and spinal cord – called microglial cells -- have in protecting and nourishing nerve cells. When glial cells become hyperactive in response to an injury, they trigger an inflammatory response that causes chronic pain. That inflammation needs to be addressed with corticosteroids, says Tennant, or pain medications will never be effective.

The second discovery is that the central nervous system uses oxytocin, progesterone, pregnenolone and other hormones to regulate microglial cells. Hormone supplements and injections can be used to boost hormone levels and keep microglial cells at healthy levels.

“These two discoveries are profound. If it had not been for these two things, we would not be doing this seminar. The protocol that I’ve developed is because of these discoveries,” says Tennant.

Ed the information is so valuable. I need to go over it in detail. I will be revisiting the neurosurgeon. I have questions. Both orthopaedic spine surgeons said not to do the revision surgery.
The neurosurgeon is from RUSH in Chicago. The University has a great reputation. The doctor there explained how he saw evidence of this condition. I am not sure the spine surgeon believes it. But he keeps saying I don't know.

            Spinal Cord Stimulator

I have worked in the Spinal Cord Stumlator (SCS) and intrathecal pump field for 19 years for a medical device company. SCS in indicated for neuropathic pain - any pain that is nerve caused or nerve related, such as arachnoiditis, radiculopathies, post herpatic syndrome, CRPS (RSD), etc. Being fused all the way up to T10 will pose a few challenges to the physician, but I have seen this many times before. All you need is a good and experienced implanter. How I explain the effect of the SCS to my patients is that it is like an electronic pain pill - we expect 50% or greater pain relief with increased function, ADL's (activities of daily living).
If you are looking for a good physician to discuss this with, I can ask my counterparts anywhere in the world and they will tell me who they'd trust a family member with. To me, that is the best way to find a doctor!
Should you want much more details or the procedure to be explained as well as differences of systems out there, I would be happy to provide. Probably off site would be best way, but I am not sure how to accomplish that.
