Well at least he had something to say. I am still in the oh my now what stage. He will send a letter to my spine doctor and will also send the same letter to me. Then I will have the written word about the 2 different things he spoke of.
But the mylogram told him that there are 2 problems. Both of which can cause the problem that I am having. It can be either one or both and no test will tell the difference. To begin with he ordered an orthotic to support my foot so that I won't trip or break my foot.
He sees a bone spur that is having an effect on the L5. The surgery he said is not easy because of the fusion. He said it was significant.
The second condition was a very long name. That I am not sure of but will know when I get his letter. But it is a condition that may be helped with an implanted nerve stimulator.
This needs more thought. I haven't made any decision. He also ordered an injection for my hip . That I will probably have done.
I also have an appointment at the University of Chicago on Monday. I will see what they have to say.

      C5,6,7 fusion 9/10
      T2--T10 fusion 2/11

      Right scapulectomy 6/15
Right pectoralis major muscle transfer to scapula
To replace the action of Serratus Anterior muscle 3/16
      Broken neck 9/28/2018
Emergency surgery posterior fusion C4- T3
Repeated 11/2018 because rods pulled apart added T2 fusion

Bone spur....Damn. But its good that they found it....

Can they do this minimally invasive? I would ask. And from the front?

Were just going to have to put you in ski boots. (smiley face)

Ed he didn't act like it w be easy . He said it was a significant surgery due to the location. Said he would have to remove the screw and maybe the cage. He needs to clear the nerve from the scar tissue. He said it was a big deal and requires thought.
When I get his letter I will have the name of the over reactive nerve problem. He was able to show me this on the mylogram. It looks like small white spots in the spinal cord. He said the nerves are upset and this can go on for years. It comes from trauma. And we know scoliosis surgery is trauma.

Jackie, you sure have struggled with all of this, you poor thing. It doesn’t sound easy....

All of us will give you a NSF group cyber hug....

Which level is it? L4/L5 or L5/S1? And was this from your original surgery? 12/08

It is part of the original surgery. It is the L-5-S1 level. He said he would not remove the rods nor the other side. And he would replace the screw or screws.
He would free the bone spurs and as much of the scar tissue he can. He said that the nerve maybe so increased that it may not be able to free it totally.
I have not spoken to my spine surgeon on this but I did talk to him after the mylogram and he thought nothing was significant enough to do anything about. So I think he will not go along with this. The neurosurgeon is sending him a letter. He will also send the same letter to the neurologist and to me. So I have people to talk to and I also asked if I can come back to ask more questions. He did say to come back with my questions.
If this was about pain it would be one thing but it is about losing the strength in the leg and foot and numbness.
              What a decision.
This doctor is from RUSH in Chicago . Rush has a number 1 rating in Illinois. So I feel comfortable in his knowledge and training.
I have an appointment on Monday with the university of Chicago spine team and will ask for their opinion.
For me it is a big deal.
