So far good. I am still in the sling except at rest. I started PT but have to remain laying on my back while the therapist moves and stretches the arm. It moves but I am having a problem with the stiches in the front incision. They used a product called V-Loc. It is a barbed stitch material. When it pulls it feels like a thorn bush or barbed wire fence being pulled through the skin. I'll be glad when it is out or dissolved.
If you think about what was done in this surgery, you have to ask "how do they come up with this". I wonder if the MD also has an engineer degree.
It amounts to taking the pectoralis major off my upper arm, attacking a doner tendon, passing it through my body, drilling a hole in my shoulder blade and attaching it to hold my shoulder blade in place. All of this gives me the best chance it be able to use my arm and hold my shoulder up to keep me in balance.
Amazing that it is even thought of. I still have a way to go to get stronger and more movement but it is possible now to get th.

          Jackie....

I had a similar procedure done on one of my ankles when I was in my 20s.

So far I am doing well . However I developed a staph infection on my back. With aggressive treatment it is getting better. It is not near the surgical site but on the area of my skin were I reacted to the dressing from the surgery. How dangerous are these types of infections? I know staph bacteria live all over our skin and are usually not a problem. This is high up on my back in an area that I can't reach and would always be covered by at least 2 shirts. We just got warmer here so I would have also had a jacket on while outside. It is a hard place to injure but possible. Does anyone know how dangerous this is to implants and this grafted tendon?. I am in treatment and after 10 days there is improvement.

Well I just started back with PT. Now we are trying to get the scapula to move closer to the spine. According to the PT the right scapula is up 2 ribs higher than the left. The opinions very but the surgeon thinks my ribs are lower on the right side. However since the muscle transfer I have much more stability in the shoulder blade that makes the shoulder and arm movement more stable. Could this be successful? I thInk so but remain guarded as I try to regain arm movement. Another slow process.

Well I just returned from my visit to the university of Chicago hospital. The muscle transfer is a complete success. It is doing fantastic. This last month I had huge gains in the ability to move my arm and shoulder. There is minimal discomfort. Getting stronger every day. Yes! Yes! Yes!
