    Hi Susan and Ed,
The pain is less and I do think the ice helped with that. I am not allowed to move it yet. I can only take it out of the restraining sling three times a day. Then it just hangs at my side. I was told not to lift even the weight of the arm. I use the other arm to move it.
I think the winging is down but I really can't move the arm into position that would show that. I see the surgeon next week. He may add some more movement but told me there would be no PT until 3 months. They drilled a hole in the scapula and attached the muscle with the help of a donor tendon. I think that has to heal before I move much.

I see. This indicates the “delicacy” of your immediate recovery....

Amazing how after scoliosis surgery, they do get us up standing right away. You would think that after having our whole spines worked on that the soft tissues would dictate a similar amount of non-activity.....

I want to say keep things at a turtles pace, but that is probably too fast....perhaps a tortoise’s pace is more like it. Heck, they even chew slow.

The follow-up visit with surgeon went well. He is pleased with the placement of scapula. It is again laying against my ribs. I can't move it yet but I am allowed to move my arm more. The extreme elbow pain is coming from the blood that pooled in the joint it should go away. I know it will be a big recovery but I am hopeful it will get better.

As I mentioned things are looking hopeful that the muscle transfer will work. An interesting thing the surgeon(not spine) keeps mentioning is that I was left with a high degree of kyphosis. Prior to the surgery in 2011 I knew I had a lot of kyphosis. The interesting thing to me is it doesn't show by looking at me but does show on X-rays. I don't doubt this is a factor in the shoulder blade issue. That and the rib hump have left me with this problem. Hopefully with the scapula resection and muscle transfer we can keep it in its correct place.
I met a person on my last visit to the university doctor who told me she had 38 surgery and I thought I was bad with 7. She did not say what surgery but moving and acted fine now.

I actually have your 3D coronal CT’s.....(Very cool) but not your x-rays. Do you have a full recent sagittal x-ray you could throw up?

I didn’t know. Usually, scolis that admit to having a certain degree of scoliosis curve, then later report that they also have a kyphosis component to throw in there....

Its good to hear that things are progressing nicely with the muscle transfer.....

I do have X-rays from last May and will try to put them on. Also can you tell me how to add to my signature?
