  • hey Ed
he just nodded when i said doctors tell me it is from uneven
    loading because of my spine...

i am trying to post latest X ray...
bottom is old one (from 4 years ago)and top is new...
    look almost identical...
but i am sure if i could see original from 10 years ago, these would look
    alot worse....

thanks to all for the concern

Jess, unsure what you mean by "but my mind, my system doesn't work like that". Are you saying that your nutrition at 90 something #s, not eating as you say because you are not hungry because of your OxyContin makes your body nutritionally ready for recovery from major spine surgery? I am unsure what you mean by that statement and how your body is different than everyone else's. You commented that Dr. Lonner is worried about your ability to heal and fight infection. What part of what he says does not make sense to you?

I say this, Jess in sincere concern about your ability to heal from surgery. Ed's suggestion of whey powder, and I would add a prenatal vitamin makes a lot of sense. We all want our FIRST surgery to be our last spine surgery.

      • no, i was referring to what you wrote
about "...don't over think it...", etc...
i come to decisions in my own way, as does everyone...
each person has their own way of reaching decisions on
        important things in their life...
your way is not my way....nor would i expect it to be vice versa.
and i am not the type to "...just let go..."
i am also dealing with personal issues i have not discussed
        on this forum...
alot of things go into a decision for such a big surgery and
recovery, as everyone who has been thru scoliosis surgery
        knows.

i will get there, if and when i do, the way i do.
i thank you for your concern and sincere suggestions.

        • Best of luck with whatever you decide. My intent is only to wish you well. Of course, each person needs to make the decision to have or not have surgery on his/her own terms.

There might be a time when you do choose to "let go", my phrase for having confidence in a surgeon who could help. Everyone who has made the date and showed up for the surgery has done that to some extent.

          • There is no doubt that everything has to be right, all ducks in a row. I myself waited many years in major pain due to my business situation...and figuring out how I was going to deal with a long recovery alone..... I just wasn’t posting during those days. I also “Let go” as Susan says but had to act fast right after setting my date. Setting my date acted as a catalyst on the things that needed sorting out. Lawyers, bankers, and contracts.....I sold my business which was a MAJOR thing for me and my 53 employees. I started that business to buy quality medical insurance for my surgeries, its part of my scoliosis story.

So, I had to let go twice, a double whammy. I put the wingsuit on and jumped off the cliff.....it was a fast turbulent flight with a long recovery.

I think that’s why my surgeon told me to lose weight...(smiley face)

            • hey Ed
              thanks....for the insight...and understanding....
it sounds as if you took care of all details carefully, before taking
              the plunge....

i do have things to attend to...
as far as that...i can see myself clear by spring...
(sooner maybe if not in northeast climate)
              IF....IF...if....i decide to have surgery....
i could even rush it for now...but too many things
would be left hanging, bothering me, making me uneasy...
IF i have surgery, i want to go into it with my mind free
              of details left undone...

as far as jumping off a cliff....at 93 pounds, and dropping,
i think the wind might carry me for awhile...

i think they get like that because of how bad my neck is...
i also got injection of steroid into left hip....
all of the injections hurt like heck...
i have had half dose steroid in left hip a couple of times in more recent past....

and my face is flushed red...since yesterday....i have never had
                that flushing side effect before...

i just hope pain doc gave me half dose and not a full one...he said

I have had that same flushing reaction after steroid injections in my hands and in the past three months had two in my left hip for bursitis. Strangely it occurs only on the left side of my face and my upper chest. Unfortunately I got no relief from the injections in my hip. The local doctor suggested I put a lift in my shoe. Hope that helps. I am doing exercises but have been bothered by this trochanteric bursitis since last December. never had it before my fusion surgery. Hope you get some relief! Jane

                  • hi jane
so sorry you have had no relief from the bursitis...i have
the same bursitis...but have NOT had fusion surgery....
it came out of nowhere....maybe a year ago, lost track of
                    how long...
it got worse....to the point where the hip will burn when i
am laying down doing NOTHING and have not walked a single
step.....so much for blaming it on walking....
and.....if it IS caused by "uneven loading of spine due to scoli"...
how come some patients have the hip pain POST surgery
                    and post healing...????

the hip pain has eased....still there but much less intense...
the flush took over 2 days to go away...it was on both cheeks
and looked like i had been out running or something....felt
warm to the touch...but i got no other symptoms...no hives,
                    etc....so i felt relieved...

however...unless i see the woman doc i saw before, i am not getting
any more steroid shots....i do NOT trust main doc to be honest
with me....i still see him only because of pain meds he gives me...
and i am very careful with how i use them....

                    • OFF TOPIC.....but related to my health...

my Sparky needs surgery again....same reason as last time...
ultra sound today said cysts on his prostate are same size
as when he needed surgery couple of years ago...
will take doggie surgeon 2 weeks or so to put Sparky's
                      surgery into surgery schedule...

Sparky brings me more joy....that increases my quality of life
                      beyond measure....
i apologized to puppy entire ride back from vet....he was stuck there
all day, waiting for ultra sound doc to show up (they require
you bring dog in at 8 a.m. and i've never seen ultra sound doc
                      get there before 3 or 4 p.m.)

i rather it be me....this sweet little dog does not deserve this suffering.....
i saw a sticker today that said
"yes, i really do love my animals as much as you love your child"

And I hope you get some shot into your hip. That sounds crazy off the hook if it hurts when you don't do anything.

                          • hi Sharon
i sent you a private message...
the thing about hip is....i JUST got the steroid shot in hip
on Wednesday....and i asked the doc to limit it to half dose,
as i don't seem to have problems with half dose....but it couldn't
have been half dose....took too long to do, and i got a cheek
                            flush that i never got before....lasted 2 days....thank goodness
no other side effects....trouble is, every time i think hip is better
from shot.....the burning pain returns...with NO apparent
cause....it comes back when i am laying still, or standing brushing
my teeth, or doing nothing, and have not walked one tiny bit
all day....BOOM....someone lights a match to my left hip without
warning.....crazy bursitis that will not quit....

and thanks to both you and Karen for the kind caring for Sparkily puppy....

they said there is choice of removing cyst or just draining
it....i do not understand if it is even same cyst as a few years
