I spoke with Susan on the phone. During her third surgery, doctors discovered that she had an infection. They removed all the hardware. The strange thing is that Susan didn't have any symptoms of infection and nobody knows when it started. She is in the hospital now and will be going to a skilled nursing facility next. She sure has been thru a ringer...
I am stronger than scoliosis, and won't let it rule my life!

Does that mean they did not complete the surgery according to plan and she will have to do this again at a later date? If so, she must be really bummed.

It sure looks that way.....
Infection is always our other main worry.....I could imagine it being such a “draining” battle.
Irina, when you talk to Susan again, tell her that we are all thinking about her and to stay strong and that she will make it through all of this.

WOW. That is about all I can say. I remember (when I first had her email address) when she was asking questions about what the surgery would be like... 'way back before her first surgery. Yes, be sure to let her know how much she's in our thoughts.

I told Susan about everyone's greetings. She is in good spirits, such an amazing and strong woman! Speaking of the hardware, they placed new hardware in instead of the old one. So, no more surgeries planned as far as she knows. Susan is being treated with antibiotics and I sure hope that it will take care of the infection.

Yes Peggy mine too, I could see her laying in the hospital without any hardware and having to wait for the infection to clear up..and then having yet go through an other surgery.
Susan wishing you all the best with your recovery.

Does anyone know if Susan has an address to send mail? (Hospital and room no) I have her home address in Yacolt,Washington. Or is that still their home? I just am amazed she didn't have symptoms of infection. But isn't that just the way it goes! At least the new stuff is in and that has to be a relief for her, I'm sure.
She has been through the ringer! I'm glad to hear she's doing alright now. Hoping everyone is having a decent day. Susan we are all rooting for you!!!! Linda
