2 screws loose. Emergency surgery last night. Hook fell off. 3 hour surgery. Legs move slightly. No more spasms. Wiped out.

Wow. Hopefully the loose screws and hooks are the reason you are having so much trouble with your legs. My fingers are crossed that as soon as you get your strength back, you will be up and walking, and before you know it, back to you active lifestyle.

Hi Susan,
I'm glad you got to Stanford so quickly and had the hardware repaired. Pretty incredible and worrisome that OHSU didn't pick that up on your scans.
Hang in there, rest and I hope things will continue to improve.

Gayle, I am at OHSU. I had surgery here on Thursday night. Dr. Hart is out of town. The emergency surgery was amazing. I cannot believe how quickly I went from having lunch to the OR. Everyone was worried that the loosened screws would do more damage to my spinal cord. Hope that I can make a good recovery. I am so happy that Dr. Hu got everyone mobilized from Stanford to the OHSU surgeon. My OHSU spine surgeon is really great. I am really drugged and my pO2 was 70 percent last night.

I hope that removing the screws would fix the problem and you walk again soon. I am not a religious person, but I asked my father to say a prayer for you.I am stronger than scoliosis, and won't let it rule my life!

I have been thinking of you a lot. I an sooo glad to hear that they removed those screws I. But where were the loose screws??? Just curious, as my brother in law had a disk in his neck that was herniated and pressing against his spinal cord . The Drs. Said he would be paralyzed for life if they didn't fix it. And ofcourse he had it fixed. He is doing fine now. But that's why I was wondering where the screws were??
It doesn't make any difference as long as it is what makes you walk again. And I truly know you will!! Your strong Susan. Use that strength to recover from this surgery and walk again my friend! These huge back surgeries are tough and sometimes along with them are complications. You have had enough my dear. I pray each day gets better for you! Patience~~~ I hate that word~~ but that's what it takes.

great that Dr Hu got it together and got people onto the problem
before things got any worse with the screws...in my mind i
couldn't understand why they didn't reach her immediately for such
a serious emergency...
i hope it was the screws and that this surgery solves it...so you
will be up and walking around soon...
wondering how the problem was not spotted with Xrays, etc at
hospital in Portland, so you didn't have to be as scared about it not
being from the surgery....that is perhaps something to look into later,
after you recover from the surgery.
wishing you rest and healing...and return of feeling and movement
along with healing....and an end to this horrific nitemare!
