I had a thoracoplasty-costoplasty as we call them here in the UK and the result of that is amazing, I still look at my back everyday and admire how flat my back is. I had an awful rib hump and my surgeon told me he would do the costoplasty because-in his words "I don't see why you should go through this huge surgery and come out with a rib hump still" He was confident that fusion alone would not reduce my rib hump. I didnt have a chest drain and my breathing hasn't been altered now or right after surgery.
I can't lie it was damn painful for a couple of months, but then I did have 8 ribs chopped in half, but I would do it all again because the pain was worth it to finally be able to wear the tops I want to wear.
