  • Radiograph(s) only ~3 weeks into brace wear - unecessary radiation?

Would it be proper or improper to do a set of radiographs after only about three weeks in a brace that includes a break in period?

It sounds like completely unnecessary radiation. It sounds like quackery on the wing.

    Hi Sharon,

Our experience with Leah was that she had an in-brace x-ray done a few weeks after starting brace wear. They do seem to give them a breaking-in period of several weeks, then follow-up with an in-brace x-ray to check for in-brace correction (should be at least 50% correction).

If it was an out-of-brace x-ray done after several weeks, unless it was time for the routine 4-6 month follow-up, it would seem like it was unnecessary.

That's funny. I thought I responded to this but now I don't see it.

      Thanks for this, Gayle.

So an in-brace radiograph to check amount of correct after the break-in period would be appropriate.

I don't really remember what all went down with my kid's Charleston but I think they did an in-brace check on the day she got it because my husband stated something about amount of correction. The next one was 6 months later near as I can recall. So I guess night-time braces are a little different.
