Is it legal for orthothotists/prosthesists to prescribe braces for scolisois?

I did not think so but I don't really know.

    Please advise.

I think chiros can legally prescribe braces for some crazy reason. Is that correct?

    Thanks.

According to the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, it is not. Here is a quote from their professional ethics section:

<snip>the Academy further supports the ABC's ethical standard that requires O&P services be prescribed by a physician or an appropriately licensed health care provider.>

You could probably contact them and ask what their definition of an "appropriately licensed health care provider" is. Insurance companies might have something to say about a brace that wasn't prescribed by a doctor, also. They seem to check everything very carefully for "medical necessity" now.

I'm just guessing here, but it may be different from state to state and country to country. I would check with the municipality where one lives.
