  • Finished with bracing and doctors

We are done with the Boston brace. We went for our final exam today, her back is stable and has some minor improvements. The upper thoracic curve is 23 degree and lumbar is 22 degrees. She was only wearing the brace at night for the past several months....and today we were given the your finished growing speech. The brace is in the garbage.

Honestly the best thing we did for my daughter was to get PT for her at a qualified Schroth PT therapist. It immediately improved her posture, strength, and helped with achy muscles. This program helped and overall improved her appearance and gave her confidence to move forward. Thanks for all the support from everyone here...thanks for sharing your success stories. I know everyone here has a different view point on this, but overall it's the people who did have success with schroth that really encouraged us to move in that direction. Honestly the orthopedic surgeon was kind and offered bracing to help with maintaining her curves, we were relaxed on that for the last six months. She started torso training and continues with schroth therapy.

Good luck everyone ...it's our time to say goodbye.

      Thanks for letting us know,
Thanks! I know she is excited to sleep tonight without the brace. No more issues with her diabetic pump insets and brace pressure...YES!

I know I haven't been on here as much, life got busy here. One of my son's got married, another joined the Marines, and we now have a new addition here ~ a puppy..who is into EVERyTHING!

That's great news! I hope she continues her exercises. It sounds like she has had more than her fair share of medical problems. I can't imaging wearing an insulin pump and a brace. Did she get to throw it away! I would still recommend that she be seen every 5 years or so by a scoli specialist just to make sure her curves continue to be stable later in life. What did the doctor say about that? Did he say she's done forever? I have a near 80 yr old friend who has curves in the 20's. Not sure how long he's had them, but it sounds like he's known about it for some time. He's not progressed and the curves don't bother him at all. So that should be reassuring. Best wishes from here on out!
            Be happy!

I was told we are finished completely. We have our last xray out of the brace. The doctor said that would be a base line for any future radiographs. Yes, I hope she continues her fitness program too. It can be long days here at times with her music and extracurricular activities.

The brace did not slow her down in her life, but it did cause significant issues with her pump.

okay the new puppy is chewing on my pant leg...augh! I may need to join a new forum on to tame a wild pup

                Congratulations to your family, Bigbluefrog!!!

What great news. It seems like it was just yesterday that you came on the forum trying to deal with the brace and pump issues. I'm so happy it's all worked out for you two.

Thanks for coming back to report!

Good luck with the pup, they're always a handful. :-)

I still come and lurk here once in a while. And this forum really was a life saver in knowing we were not alone. It helps to see so many who have this condition and find positive solutions.

Glad that this place is here to sound out the trouble spots and encourage one another.

Thanks for being supportive in the past few years.
