            Doing Well So Far!!

Gayle's hubby was finally able to update her care page. She did not get out of surgery until 6 p.m. yesterday and he wasn't able to see her until after 9 p.m. - and he spoke to the doctor this morning. She is in the new spine unit and most importantly he said "she is doing well, much better than last time"! Music to my ears - I am so relieved!!

Just a quick update - after a little bump (Gayle's stomach was 'asleep'), it is expected that she will go home on Wednesday. She's pretty medicated but resting comfortably.

                                11 days post-op

                                Hi everyone,

just a quick update here. I had my surgery on Feb 3rd--posterior revision T12-L5 I think with rod repair/replacement and refusion at L2/3 and L3/4 which had confirmed pseudoarthroses. After the posterior they flipped me and did disc removal/XLIF/anterior fusion at L2/3 and L3/4.

I did well for the first few days in the hospital but ended up with an ileus, so I ended up staying 6 days. I had very good pain control and outstanding nursing care so that was a nice change from the first surgery, when things didn't go so well. I came home last Wednesday.

I am doing well with pain control, taking 10 mg of oxycodone every 6 hours, and feeling almost ready to try and start weaning it down. Since my ileus resolved I have not had much problem with nausea, so I am able to eat light meals. I think that helps a lot with regaining strength.

I have been taking 3 walks outside each day for about 5 minutes each. I will be getting a bone growth stimulator soon. My worst complaint right now is I had a severe allergic reaction to the steri-strips and tape, so I have a very red, itchy rash over my back and over the side incision. Hot showers help control the itching but I will be really glad when it's gone.

                                Thanks for all the well-wishes!
