Well I am already fused from T6-L1 and they are removing part of my rod that is broken and replacing it with one that goes to my sacrum

Not long to wait! (That's a good thing.) Hope the time goes quickly and your surgery is 100% successful.

            congratulations for your courage...
even though i know you have a broken rod, i still think it takes guts to schedule the surgery....
wishing you the best....it HAS to be better to have a good fusion outcome rather rhan broken rods!

This may be a dumb question, as I have not had the surgery. But why only one rod? It seems that most of the surgeries here are using two rods. I would think that would be stronger and less likely to break before fusion takes place. I know this was a hard decision for you. I wish you all the best and a quick recovery!
              Be happy!

                  Hi,

Her original surgery was anterior, where they use one rod from the side. The fusions with two rods are placed from the posterior.

How did you make out? I am most likely looking at a 3rd surgery. Betty B

There is/was at least one system that used 2 anterior rods. I don't see it often however.
