  • Message anyone anyone?

    Hello everyone! My name's Maliha and I just had my 2nd year post opp. I've been having some tightening in the middle of my upper back. Two weeks ago I went to the doctor and she said my rib was out of place which really hurt. She gave me a 10 minutes massage to nudge my rib back to where it needed to be and that helped so much! My question is has anyone gotten a message post opp not even deep tissue but just a regular message? If helped me feel better before surgery but I haven't gone since. I would'nt want someone pressing on my spine but what about shoulders and shoulder blades etc. School and work have neen very busy so I know I've been tense. ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED :}

    I just read the other day that someone had a full fusion and got a massage and they really enjoyed it. Karen (golfnut) was that you?

      Hi Maliha,
      I am 4 months post-op, and go once a week for a massage. I have extreme tightness in my back and scapular areas, and also in the rib cage anteriorly. My PT does myofascial release work, but only about 10 mins per session, so he recommended further work with a massage therapist, and my surgeon approved it. It is important to find someone who is certified, and is more geared towards medical massage. My therapist is very gentle, and does do light work over my spine, called scar mobilization, and it is not painful at all. So, if the massage helped you, I say "go for it!"

        Yes, I had a 30 minute massage at about 9 months post-op. She was very gentle and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm already thinking about another one next month.
