seems a new bunch of spammers are not waiting for the weekend...
any time there is a name attached to a dozen threads at the same time, it is
    obvious what is going on....
this morning there are a bunch of posts in foreign languages....if those are
    even real languages....

do these people not know the negative reactions they create?...that no one will
    purchase whatever they are pushing....?
why is there no way to make this kind of thing punishable with a $$ fine...?
does anyone believe that would violate "free speech"...??
    these people are so obnoxious!!!

i'm so sorry you get stuck with this stuff, Linda...
    what a time waster!

      Jess,
If it were punishable, you'd have to find them first. They are from other countries and that makes it very difficult.

        Linda,
I'm sorry to hear you've been spending a lot of time dealing with spammers.
My suggestion would have been to go into admin of vbulletin or in cpanel and manually block the ip addresses of the users who continually join only to spam.
There's a number of online tutorials that show how to do deal with spam for v-bulletin.
They advise to use the akismet spam-o-matic plug-in that basically does this by checking against a database of ip addresses of known forum spammers.
They also say that adding questions and answers in registration fields can also help.
I'm sorry to hear that you're not trusted enough to have this full admin access to make these site changes.
I think that you being the main person who deals with this forum that you should have full site access.
I personally don't think I'd be able to handle only having limited admin access, or front-end editing only - it would drive me crazy.
I hope they're able to get the problem sorted out for you.

        - Scott

When one of my sites was hacked a few weeks ago I got all angry and upset about it too, asking what do these people have to gain by ruining my site.
It seems to me that some hackers simply are looking to make a name for themselves by pointing out your site vulnerabilities in the most unforgivable way.
I guess the spammers on the other hand are nowadays finding it harder to spam email addresses like they used to, so they are looking for other ways to spam and make their money.
When my site was hacked it had the hackers name written all over it - like he was proud that he had hacked my site, but it taught me a lesson, to not have the MySQL database named a simple name - like my site name and also to have a much harder admin and MySQL passwords.
I know that deleting spam must be frustrating, the site needs to be more secure to stop the vulnerabilities they are exploiting to spam.

My daughter is a programmer and for some time worked for an internet security company in Japan. Staff were from all over the world and some of them were ex-hackers who'd made a name for themselves and were paid very highly for their expertise (in internet security and foiling breaches.) I think it's disgusting.

they want to make a name for themselves....?
              seriously...??
i assume they are mostly young people...
that seems to be who is interested in hacking....
really...they need to get a life, re evaluate their priorities!
i do not understand that mentality!
it is so completly from another world!!
who could they possibly impress....besides other hackers....?

i think we need a volunteer...a hacker who will foil these people...
and what is in it for anyone to hack into a medical forum....?!!

I haven't taken the time to check it out, but I suspect that many of the links aren't really posted to try to sell crap, but are instead, posted in an effort to lead unsuspecting individuals to websites where people end up getting hacked.

                  Hi JenniferG and jmyc
Jen, saw your signature - Im from Brisbane as well. YAY
jmyc, I know someone who's good at coding who could take a look, but really the best people to deal with this spam problem would be the support staff or maybe forum users at vbulletin themselves. I'm guessing they deal with these issues a lot and know the best way to stop it. That would be the first place to go for support.

Hi Scott, I'm from Mooloolaba. Almost neighbours.

                    Jess,

The better(?) the hacker, the better the internet security jobs they get and the better paid because they have the most inside knowledge. It's a funny ol' world.

                      thanks for the explanation...
                      so i get it now...
they get rewarded for illegal activities...at least, they prove what they
are capable of performing illegal activities...
why are they rewarded and not arrested...?!!
                      very sick...

went to NY to the pain doc...
came back and went to sleep, but my puppy is on antibiotics for a UTI, and he had
to have another pill at 5 am (husband messed up schedule while i was away)
puppy thinks he is a camel and doesn't like to drink water...
he won't drink anything except for after dinner...
thus he doesn't pee often enough....
plus he has something wrong with his winky...

now you're sorry you asked, aren't you....?
