  • When to have surgery?? Before or After the holidays....

I am coming closer to deciding on WHO will do my (3rd) surgery but at the moment, i'm also struggling with WHEN to have it done....with the approach of the holidays coming in the next few months, i'm debating on whether or not i can hold out until the new year (2012) when the hustle and bustle of year end celebrations and busy-ness calm down a bit. I know NOT to have surgery on a Friday and past experience has told me to NOT be in the hospital over a holiday (had my 2nd surgery over Memorial Day weekend and that was a disaster)...

I'm just wondering WHEN would be a good time to do this - keeping in mind the recouperation time as well as nursing staffing during those busy months of November/December - i don't want to ruin my family's holidays (i have a 2-1/2 yr old and 4-1/2 yr old) - i want them to enjoy the holidays but in the same breath, i don't know how much longer i can hold out....

    What do you all suggest??

How soon can you get a surgical date? If you can get one in October then by Christmas you should be feeling pretty good in order to enjoy the holidays.

Then it is a decision that only you can make. How bad is the pain and can you wait until the first of Jan or must you have the surgery now and just deal with the
holidays ? You can have your shopping done before your surgery and have the gifts wrapped . As your children are little, that is what is important to them. Your
husband can put up the tree and with the children's help decorate it. Either way, your holidays will be limited as to what you can do. Either from the pain or from the recovery

That's a really good point Melissa - - i never really thought of it that way - that my holidays would limited either by pain or recovery. Alot to think about. So thank you for your posts. I was able to get my Clements appointment moved up from 10/10 to 9/26 - i will be seeing him for a 2nd time this Monday and will bring all the scans & xrays he didn't get to see the first time - we'll see if his plan has changed at after viewing all the films. I may just end up actually doing this sooner than later afterall. The pain is getting worse week by week and day by day...

Personally, as a mother, I think that you would be better off being limited by being in recovery as apposed to being in pain. If your pain is increasing now and it is only September , How are you going to feel by the end of November till the end of the year? Good luck with your decision.
