  • Grad student who had scoliosis surgery gets grant to study scoliosis

Here's a couple of items about a young woman who had scoliosis surgery when she 12. She is now in grad school and has just received a grant to study scoliosis.

That's great news. I did my graduate work (rotational trunk strengthening) at KU as well (albeit the med center in Kansas City). My department (PT and Rehab Sciences) works with the engineering school. In fact, Lisa Friis almost served on my dissertation committee. I wonder if my old mentor, who is a mechanical engineer, would serve on her committee. Regardless, there are a few PI's at KU that have scoliosis experience so maybe it'll become one of those places that does some good scoli research.

It's also great news to see that scoliosis is getting national funding.
