      • I have a question. My husband has PSTD and has a very hard time being confined. He panicked during the CT scan. He is, also, not dealing with the waiting very well of the next ten days. Any ideas on what he could take to help him deal with the next ten days? Also, whom should he speak to about the PSTD issues he may have with pre-op and the hospital stay?

        Thanks so much
        Melissa

        • There is no way that I am going to get through the next 10 days. He has always been impossible to live with and now is 100 times worse.

I just don't know what to do

          • The stress you and your family have been under for a long time, has been enormous. You've survived some of the worst things life can throw at you and you'll survive the next 10 days. I don't know how, but you will, I have faith in you. Your husband may make it impossible to support him, but if he lets you, my suggestion is to offer your support at this time, because he's going through a terrible fear now, similar to what you've felt facing major surgery in the past. This might be the best way to get through the next 10 days. If not, the best you can do is try to keep the home calm and give him his space. How are you children coping? Is your daughter being supportive?

We have not told my son(17 years old) the entire truth about how bad Marc is. Yes, Thank God, my daughter is being very supportive. I will just try to get thru the next days .

                • dear Melissa...
the anxiety thru all of this crisis must be horrendous....
i could not make a suggestion for an anti anxiety
short term medication...i am not a doctor, of course...
                  but there are such meds...
do you think his doctor who diagnosed him would
help??...maybe if you called that doctor and told him what
is going on?? if your husband does not have a therapist he has been
seeing, i would think appealing to the doctor who made the
diagnosis, or to the surgeon who will operate on your husband,
would be the quickest way to get help for his anxiety....since it is 10 days, which is short term (though it may feel like forever)....the medication could be prescribed now....regardless of any other problems, this anxiety sounds situation based....
                  any doctor would understand it...

thoughts and prayers for you and your family

I'm very glad to hear your daughter is supportive. It sounds like she's done a lot of growing up, Melissa.

                          • Well, we went for his pre-op yesterday. It was very strange not being the patient

Surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday, so we just keep on going

                            Thanks for listening

                            • My back hurts really bad tonight. As I am fully fused, is there any explanation for it?

                              Thanks

                              • Anxiety? It's hard to say but I don't think anxiety helps. You've travelled a harder road than most of us and you're dealing with fibro. You haven't missed a Lyrica? With everything else on your mind, it'd be understandable if you missed a pill. You could try lying on heat. I hope you were able to get some sleep and are feeling better by now.
