  • Revision surgery with hip implants

I'm new to the forum and am searching for adult patients who had revision surgery and have also had hip replacements. I met with Dr Leibwohl today in Miami. I had Harrington Rods in 1979, fused to L5. I have had both hips replaced due to hip dysplasia.
I have severe pain between L4 & L5 and Dr is recommeding fusion. My concern is limited movement and additional stress on my hips & pelvis if he fuses.
    Appreciate any guidance!

In the last 3 or so years here I have not seen a poster with hip transplants. I have hip pain myself and I'm worried that it will be my turn for new hips at some point. Maybe Linda might know.....

If you look in my signature you will see my bending thread with pics of myself.....I’m fused all the way down and have done quite well, and I’m a skier.

When you had your hips done, did the surgeon attribute the hip problems to your Harrington rods?

I understand that low end pain you have, it’s a killer sometimes. Have you committed to surgery yet?

I don't recall ever seeing anyone with hip replacements post about revision surgery here, but I see patients with one or both hips replaced, who come in for surgery just about every week.

        Revision surgery with hip implants

Thanks for the feedback. My hip implants actually were not a result of the scoliosis, although I would guess the scoliosis was a result of my hip issues since it's all tied together! I had a few corrective surgeries as a child, then needed total hip replacements. I haven't committed to surgery yet; I plan on holding off as long as possible.
        Thanks again.
