  • Going Home Today

I am going home today and I feel nervous about it. In rehab, everything is set up for you.Back in the real world , things are harder. I will be fine, just nervous

I think it is natural to be nervous. I know I was apprehensive about going home and even told the Dr. I didn't think I was ready. You will do just fine.

Yes, It's nerve-wracking going home but that will only last a day or so by which time, you'll see that you are coping. What structures have been put in place for you Melissa? Are you getting home visits by carers, home-help, etc.?

I hope it all goes smoothly for you and you can simply rest and heal without outside concerns, for a while.

Going home is tough to imagine how you will cope. You feel so vulnerable. Just take each small step at a time. I'm so happy that you are on to this next stage though. You will make it to a better place in recovery very soon. Janet

Well, I got home Saturday afternoon and was exhausted. Sat down in a chair and fell asleep for several hours. Yesterday, I got up and went to church and then stopped at the supermarket for several items and came home. Had lunch and slept again all afternoon

I hope you see a great difference now. I improved so much after coming home from the hospital, probably just because I was in my familiar surroundings again and felt more comfortable. That's when things got so much better for me. So I hope you find the same thing to be true for you! And sleeping is a great way to pass the recovery time. : )

Melissa I'm so glad to hear you are on the road to recovery!

We don't have kids but later said that, once we got in the front door from the hospital, it must have been the same sensation as bringing home a baby - what do we do now? Are we sure we can do this? I'm still alive and we are still happily married so apparently we did okay! And so will you.

Wow Melissa! You continue to amaze us with your dramatically better-than-last-time recovery! You sound a different person. You deserve this! But try not to overdo. Get some walking in each day, but plenty of rest as well. There's a LOT of healing going on in your back.

I know. I feel so good that I want to do everything but then I will get tired or feel some pain so I know I have to stop and relax

How are you feeling at home Melissa?

I read your other post that you have another surgery coming up. Hopefully this is what you need to make sure that you are ok from here on out!

I had a horrible night last night. I had so much neck pain that I could not get comfortable at all. Finally I gave up trying to sleep and just sat in a chair where finally after several hours fell asleep

                          Hi Melissa...

Sorry you had a bad night. I think, however, that it's pretty normal. I was a pretty unhappy camper for a few months. I could never get comfortable enough to stay asleep for more than an hour in bed. I finally discovered that I could sit up in my recliner and get some decent stretches of sleep most nights.

This can be a really tough time. Hang in there, as it will almost certainly get better.

                          Regards,
                          Linda
