  • Anyones child had or having growing rods put in

    Hi
It looks as though my 8 year old child needs growing rods put in for her scoliosis.
I am looking for anyones child who has had or is going to have these put in.
I would love to hear about your experiences.
I am a little freaked out about it all.

    Hi Mommycat,

I am very sorry to hear this is becoming a possibility for you daughter. As I recall she was being braced for 28 degrees thoracic last you had posted. Did her curve have a large increase to prompt the surgery recommendation?

There have been a few other families here in the past whose child has had growing rods...you could try doing a search for titles of posts with growing rods and growth rods. and see if you can find them.

Good luck, and please do let us know how things are going.

Yes we just had an out of brace xray yesterday and her curve has progressed to 42 degrees even being in her brace 22 hrs a day.
Seems every time we get an xray its always going up.
The one before this was at 34 degrees, that one was 6 mths ago.
So as you can see it seems bracing is no longer a good choice, mind you surgery isn,t great either.

          Me too

Hi, I would be interested too. My 2.5 year old is soon to have this surgery and I'm trying to find information on the different surgical options available.
