  • Tanning after surgery

    Hello all,

I wanted to know if any of you have tanned after surgery and how long you waited? I am about 8 weeks post op. The weather here in Ohio has been horrible, rain, rain, and more rain. I use to go tanning once a month or so...especially in the winter b/c it made me feel better, fake sun was better than no sun. I am wondering if it would hurt to go now.

I've never done tanning-bed tanning, and at my age I avoid the sun (don't want wrinkles ). The surgeon's office told me that if I will be in the sun, make sure to use plenty of sunscreen on the scar.

Did you ask your surgeon's office? If not, you should.

I wouldn't think so, but then tanning beds aren't considered safe for anyone. I bared my back to the sun about 9 months after surgery, and only very briefly. I think a tiny bit of sun can actually be good for you (vit. D) but sunbaking is always harmful, and I would imagine especially on newly formed scar tissue. I usually wear a t shirt over my swimsuit when swimming.
