  • So upset...

So I went to a neurologist for the first time yesterday, I told him that my pain has become severe over the past year or so and I'm to the point where I can't take it anymore. He said my MRI wasn't very good quality, but he could tell that I have scoliosis, just not the extent of it, and he told me I also have something else that I was born with (something I couldn't pronounce, of course) which pretty much boils down to a broken tailbone that's never going to heal.

That was it. He said he's going to send me to get a CT scan so he can watch the curve to see if it worsens, he's going to send me to a pain management specialist (whatever the hell that means). He said a back brace wouldn't work for me and that he didn't think that I should consider surgery at this time. So what am I supposed to do??? Just hurt constantly? I'm so upset. And in so much pain.

    Hi...

I would try to find another doctor if possible. The only way to monitor curve progression is with standing radiographs. Scoliosis curves flatten significantly when one lies down, as they do during CT scans (and most MRIs).

To find another specialist, you might want to start here:

      absolutely what Linda wrote...
that is exactly what you should do...find a surgeon who is a scoli specialist on the SRS list...someone in your area...and see what he says....(usually a "he")

you do not have to accept the opinion of the first doctor you consult with!
but i do believe you will need a clear CT/MRI/ Xray of your spine...
they use that to get a measurement of the curve(s)

and for patients in pain, pain management doctors offer different treatments....i see a pain doc in Manhattan every month...
some of the tx have worked, some not...but i keep trying...
