i am off to NYC today...appointment with pain doc...
(if the cab can make it thru the ice to the train station...)
maybe i will ask him why, after falling and hitting my spine, right where the worst curve is, my back actually feels better....?!
it certainly doesn't feel any worse, which i expected...

    very very strange...
makes me think i should fall more often...

thinking of the surgery folks today and the rest of this week....

        Hi Jess,

No ice in NYC today - it's already 37 degrees.

How curious! Maybe you should ask him if perhaps you should fall on that spot more often.

          Seriously, take care Jess!

            thanks guys!

yes, Maria, no ice in NYC! it looks like a different world from northern New England! and....i am sooo home sick!

i couldn't see pain doc...he is somewhere warm, at medical conferences all week...didn't know it when i made the appointment....
i didn't tell the physician's assistant...since i don't know how long my back will feel better, or what kind of weird thing caused it...

i used to have a GP who called these kinds of things "paradoxical effect"...

and yes, Jenn...i would like to fall on it more often, if i can get the same result every time!

              Hi Jess,

I have an 85-yr-old friend who has had off-and-on sciatica and disc misery for years. Her latest bout of bedridden suffering was from before Thanksgiving until after New Year's...She was tentatively limping to the bathroom when she fell and buzzed the hospital with some gizmo she wears around her neck. The paramedics came, and she said she watched this big, burly guy come at her and just hoisted her off the floor while she protested the entire time. When she was upright, voila! All her pain was gone.

              Anyway, reminded me of you.

thanks for that, Amy....it is so weird!...at least now i know someone else has experienced it!

i do not know if i moved a nerve that was pressing on something and now is not pressing anymore...or what!
i do not know when the pain will come back full force...
the sciatica...on the left side, where i hit the biggest curve in my spine, is still there...but muted...

                very very strange...
i'd do it every month if i could figure out exactly how/where to hit!

too bad it can't work for knees!
i keep thinking with my knees going (miniscus tear, arthritic "changes"), i cannot imagine bending to reach things after surgery! it does explain why walking down stairs is a little painful lately!

people who say aging is worth wisdom....must have strong spines and intact knees!

My first response when I heard this story was, "Can I have that guy's name and number?"

Paramedic for hire. You fall, we haul. Bingo, you're healed.

I have a knee too! Ouch. And my hands are becoming little weather predictors.

                  Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Jess, How funny! I can relate.

Last May I got hit by a car while on a bike ride. (not fun and don't recommend it!) My body got thrown onto the cars windshield and broke it. Anyway, about a month laster, after lots of recovery, my physical therapist said she has never seen my back look better! She has worked on me for about 10 years. I was lucky not to break anything, and I am in pretty good shape but couldn't normally for about a week.
