  • Anyone familiar with Dr. Douglas Burton at Kansas U Med Center?

Hi, this is my first post. I'm a long time reader of the Forum, but have never jumped in. We recently moved to the Kansas City, MO area from mid-MO. I have been given Dr. Douglas Burton's name as a scoliosis specialist who can do revision surgery. It would be reassuring if anyone on the Forum has some experience with him or knowledge by reputation. I have been having increasing pain and spasms since having my Harrington rods removed in 2001 at my orthopedists suggestion due to headaches. I am 69 and we moved to be closer to our 3 grandkiddos!
ROYANNE. Harrington Rod fusion 1974 age 34, Thoracic Lumbar curves reduced from 64/25 to 26/12, with thoracoplasty, at Rush, Chicago, Dr. DeWald. Rods removed 2001 in Columbia, MO. Curves now 44/44/20 (triple).

    Hi...

I've always thought Dr. Burton was really intelligent. He's done some great research. I don't, however, know how much revision work he's done. I always thought of him as a pediatric specialist, but I could be wrong. If you need to spread out a little to find someone else, I would definitely suggest that you look at Larry Lenke or Keith Bridwell in St. Louis.

    Regards,
    Linda

      Thanks, Linda

Thanks for your input. As a matter of fact I do have an appointment in March to go to Chicago. I will see Dr Chris DeWald for the first time. It was his father who did my Harrington Rod surgery back in 1974. I was hoping I would not have to travel, but it might be best to get Dr DeWald's opinion of my options.
