  • Suggestions for Doctors in Houston area for Possible Revision Surgery

Hello everybody. I had my original surgery in 1989 done by Dr. Erwin in Houston at Scoliosis Associates. I thought he was a great doctor. A harrington rod was inserted (not sure the exact length but my scar is almost the length of my back). Anyway I have been having problems such as sciatica in my right leg with feelings of it going numb and of course my back hurint. A few years ago I found out that the rod is broken, and I am not sure if that is a problem. Anyway I would like to see a doctor in the Houston area to check me out and see how things are going. If you could give me any recent information I would be appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Jerry

Hi Jerry, I can't help you with doctor suggestions b/c I'm not in your area but I'm sure there are others who can. I was just thinking of starting a new thread to ask questions about the rods that are used these days in fusion and was wondering if they still use the Harrington rods or if they use something else. Since one of your Harrington rods has broken, what will they replace it with: the same rod or a different kind? I hope you don't mind me asking these questions along with your original question.

        Revision

I too live in Houston, but went to Austin and saw Dr Lowenstein at Spine Austin. It was a good experience, I would recommend him if you don't mind traveling a little. I also need revision surgery, original surgery in 1976. I got a second opinion from Dr Hansen, but will be returning to Austin as it was a better experience for me.
