  • Cervical/Thoracic Scoliosis and Cardiac/Chest Pain

I have relatively mild scoliosis from C4-T4 with narrowed neuroforamen, bulges, herniations and spurs through that zone.

In addition to my neck pain, upper back pain, and radiating pain down my left arm, I am starting to experience pain in my chest - a deep ache where my heart is.

I went to a cardiologist for a full workup. Other than known issues (supraventricular tachycardia and a very slight mitral valve prolapse), nothing was detected.

So, I'm wondering if the pain is related to the scoliosis. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

    Thanks.

I know this is a late reply, but I've not been on the forum for awhile. To your question, yes, yes, yes!!! I have a very minor mitral valve prolapse and diagnosed with IST (inappropriate sinus tachycardia). I have a double major curve starting from T-1 to about L-2. I attribute the chest pain to the spine pulling the ribs which are attached to the chest. Sometimes I can even see them sticking up. Other times I get pain in the intercostal muscles (the ones between the ribs). That can hurt pretty much anywhere around the chest cavity. My advice to anyone out there with chest pain is to get the cardio work-up just to make sure.
    Be happy!

how "minor" is your minor scoli?

i understand severe curves can cause heart/lung problems, but have never heard of a minor curve doing that...
course, just cause i never heard of it doesn't mean it hasn't happened...i think it is just surprising if, indeed, your curve is "minor"..?

hope you have a good scoli specialist...?
