Hi, heres my scoliosis story. When I was around 12 or 13 I went to the hospital for chest pains (nothing was wrong) and they took an x-ray of my chest and told me my spine was curved slightly and that I should watch it. I never had any pain or noticed anything and didnt really watch it. I am 21 (male) now and one of my friends noticed my right upper back was larger than my left. I performed the bend test and many people said it was very prominent, so I made an appointment with a chiropractor. They did an x-ray followed by some chiropractic work (pushing on the back and spine by machines). The x-ray showed I had a 24 degree curve in the thoracic region, and that my spine was also twisting somewhat, which was also causing my ribs to stick out of my back further. The chiropractor wants me to come back about twice a week to have chiro work done (such as pulling my legs and trying to re-align my spine). Since I have no pain whatsoever, I was wondering if this was a good idea or not. I have researched online and some say chiro work does well and others are against it. Has anyone had chiro work done? I realize I am very lucky to not have a larger curve but I dont want to waste the time or money to correct it if it isnt needed. The chiropractor said I would be at risk for more problems in the future (I cant remember specifically what) if I dont try to get it straightened. Has anyone had chiro work done and experienced more pain or a beginning of pain? Do you think I should go along with the chiropractic work?

Sorry for the long post. I appreciate and answers from your experience or others. Thanks

    hi waffles
welcome to this forum...it is a great place to find information, read about experiences of others, learn and share...there are many kind people here...

i would strongly suggest that you find a good scoliosis specialist...please!
there are chiros out there who have done damage to folks with scoli!

there is a list of excellent doctors on this forum..also, depending on where you live, you could probably find a recommendation for a doctor for your area...there are orthopedic specialists who specialize in scoli, surgeons, pain doctors, etc...it would be wise if you saw a scoli specialist to have a doctor keep track of your spinal curve and watch it over the years....

i was not diagnosed until i was 30 years old...and my spine didn't bother me until decades later, when i herniated discs...after that, the scoliosis got worse and the pain got really bad...i am considering surgery, but in the meantime see a pain management doctor....

    best of luck...

      Hi Waffles...

There is no chiropractic treatment that is going to straighten your spine. If you have pain, and the chiropractic treatment helps, good for you. If not, don't get sucked into believing it will get better.

      Linda
