  • 6 month post-op visit

Hey all, just had my 6 month post-op visit with Dr. Good today and all is progressing really well. I've had smooth sailing the last few months and feel amazingly better every week that passes. When looking at my x-ray's it was amazing to see the fusion progress since my last visit (3 months). One area in particular where a disc was removed, but no cages used, was amazing. Just 3 months ago the bone he inserted into my disc space was clearly visible...at this point you can't even see it, just solid bone from vertibrae to vertibrae....even the titanium spacers he used in two places are also nearly entirely encased in bone at this point. Much of the other areas of fusion were less visible to me, but he was very happy with my progress. The best news for me, being a golfer, is he gave me the green light to start putting again! :-) He also once again confirmed that he sees no reason I should not be able to be back to golfing after another 6 months, which works out perfect for the spring!

Just wanted to share my good news.

                Really happy for you, Rich.

It must be such a relief! I never thought about it before, but it must be heartening to see your spine do something it should on an x-ray, rather than degenerate the other way.

Enjoy your golf game and especially thinking and planning for it...

                      Rich

If you think you are good now, wait another year!

Keeping it short, my recovery stats were 90% in the first year, and the last 10% took another year.

It will be interesting to see how you do with your golf game. We have not had many sports enthusiasts report in the past, and I don’t believe we have had any golfers report. Putting is very low impact, I would wait for your Doctor to approve any swinging...maybe next spring.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I truly appreciate it! I really look forward to being able to golf again, but I'm definitely not going to rush it...putting works for now, hopefully by next spring I'll have the green light to try a full swing. :-)

                          Hey Rich!

I think of you often as I work in Reston and drive by the VA Spine Clinic occassionally, and have been wondering how you're doing.

This is such good news! So happy to hear of your progress. It feels so great each step you can take towards your pre-surgery life and all the activities you used to enjoy.

                            Yeah, Rich!!!
I'm glad you're doing so well. I especially like your report about being able to play golf. You know I'm nuts about golf and play about 5 days a week. I hope to at least chip and putt next summer. I just won the Annbriar Ladies' Club Championship today, so I'm happy about that. I told my competitiors that I would not be playing next summer.
Best of luck in your continued recovery!
