  • Numbness and tingling...

Is it common to experience numbness and tingling in hands and arms when you have scoliosis? My right hand (computer mouse hand) goes a little numb when using the mouse...I thought it may be CPS but normally that affects the wrists areas I think? Also, when on the phone, I hold phone with my left hand and I have to keep alternating because my hand goes numb and starts to tingle when holding the phone...

Still waiting to hear from doctor...I have constant pain in my cercical section as well as lumbar section...severe headaches every other day and numbness and tingling...from those symptoms, is it safe to say that it's on a more "severe" side of scoliosis or is it just normal symptoms? I realize that many people don't have the pain and I also realize that alot of people don't have any problems with their legs or feet...

    Thanks

It could be coming from your cervical spine, or it could be coming from your elbow or arm.

Okay...thank you Linda...most of my pain is in the cervical area so that would make alot of sense...

Wanted to echo Linda's words. I had decompression on my cervical spine for stenosis* in 2007. Although I didn't have much tingling and numbness in my hands, I read up on it a good bit and it is indeed common from neck issues, especially stenosis. When the cord is pinched in the neck, it often causes all kinds of hand symptoms - clumsiness and fine motor issues too.

And come to think of it, I have tingling and numbness right now too, only this time it's clearly on account of over-leaning on my left elbow as I type == score two for Linda!

        Be well.

*Nb I have no scoliosis at that level - only further down. Linda pointed our recently that decompression alone for stenosis can cause instability for patients with scoliosis
Not all diagnosed (still having tests and consults) but so far:
        Ehler-Danlos (hyper-mobility) syndrome, 69 - somehow,
        main curve L Cobb 60, compensating T curve ~ 30
Flat back, marked lumbar kyphosis (grade?) Spondilolisthesis - everyone gives this a different grade too. Cervical stenosis op'd 3-07, minimally invasive

          hi TINA
i get numbness and tingling in hands sometimes...but was told that it is coming from nerves being pinched or pressured in lumbar spine...then i also get numbness, etc, down left leg with sciatica...my spinal stenosis is in lumbar spine, also...course, my scoli is complicated by degenerative disc disease, rotation, arthritis, listhesis, etc, as are many others who have scoli...
i so appreciate my pain management doctor, whom i see every month...until such time as i can stick to a decision to have the surgery, which my surgeon tells me i am a great candidate for, and he will get great results, i rely on pain doctor!
hope you can find one to help you if you want to...

Thanks everyone for your feedback...It's greatly appreciated

Can anyone tell me if the xrays report will show the degrees of the curves? Or do you only find out that information once you see a specialist?

Some do and some don't. Either way, you'll probably get a more accurate measurement from the orthopaedist.

Could also be thoracic outlet syndrome....tingling in hands is a symptom, particularly the little fingers.
