  • Nothing goes right !!

    Hey Im Sydnie,
I was scheduled to get the fusion with the cidaver bone on March 22 this year. That didnt work out because of my breathing . I have restrictive lung disease and i have 41% breathing compasity out of 80% and that morning i showed up and they did testing on me and they said she is weezing on and off we will have to post pone her surgery and when my surgen walked on in the room he had a excited look on his face to do my surgery because he was happy that i was going to be fixed and than he seen me sitting there upset and the happy look on his face just was wiped out with a dissipointed look but we sat there talking he and I were talking we rescheduled the surgery to april 12 and that is close that is this monday BUt I got sick with brawncitis and my breathing was down and I went to go do a check up with my plumenary specialist and he said there was no way I could have that surgery this week so my mother called the surgeon and there was another dissupointment to me and my surgeon and now its to july and if the curve grows thats not going to be good because when I first had my fist check up with him ever he looked at my xrays and said he was amazed how i am even walking but to me and everyone its a miricle but now im just waiting for my surgery ........ I am still very nervous about the surgery because of the cidaver bone theres going to be alot of pain involved with the surgery but also a happy patient and surgeon ! but has anyone got the cidaver bone replacement done? and how bad is the pain after surgery???and is there anything that you remember hurt thd most????

When you're talking about cadaver bone are you talking about bone grafting? If so, I had some bone grafting - some bone taken from my hip and some using cadaver bone. I've had some hip pain post surgery, but not too bad.

Syd, I think you have this exactly opposite.

Cadaver bone SAVES you the potential pain of having bone harvested from your iliac crest. I have been told by folks who have had this done that the ongoing (years later) pain associated with this bone harvesting is worse than the pain that was associated with their scoliosis.

As a result, I was ready to refuse to allow the surgeon to harvest bone and was going to insist on the exclusive use of cadaver bone for my kids.

Luckily, they don't do the bone harvesting any more on kids as far as I can tell and I didn't have to take a stand.

        Good luck with your surgery.

No I didn't need to refuse the harvesting because the surgeon didn't intend to do it. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

So sorry to hear it was postponed a 2nd time

                    Hi Syd.

Sorry to hear you got bronchitis. That's a huge bummer because I know you were really looking forward to getting the surgery over with. Now you'll be thinking about it more.

Be sure to talk over your thoughts with your Mom and Dad. The school social worker would be a good person to talk to also.

John's surgery is 10 weeks away in June. He asks about the pain and how it will be managed at least once a week. We are starting a new list of questions to ask the doctor the next time we see him. Maybe you could do that.

As for the bone grafts, maybe you'll bone grafts from someone super strong!

We were cheering for Butler as soon as Michigan State got knocked out of the tournament. I know you were too.

                        Good question

                        Hi Syd

Hope your bronchitis it doing better.

I don't know if they are using cadaver bone on John. That's a question we'll add to our question list.

John and I were talking tonight and some of his friends are asking him questions so we decided to start writing those down too. Some of those questions are good too so that might be a good idea for you too.

We are watching a replay of the Tigers game from this afternoon. We won 9-8. It was an exciting game.

                        Have a good week.

                            Hey Syd

Sorry to hear about your setback. It's tough to wait so long only to have to postpone again. Hopefully, the 3rd time will be the charm.

BTW, guess it's ok for us old folks to post here again.

                            Take care of yourself.
