I've had implants since 2001 - and had fusion in 2008: Your surgeon shouldn't be anywhere NEAR them.
Fusion is NOT the end of the world.

I renovated in 2004. For about a year after the surgery, they seemed nice and even. But over time, one seemed to be larger than the other and the disproportion got slightly worse over time. Not enough for anyone else to notice, but I did. After my original surgery they seemed much more even but again, with the kyphosis and changes in my back, they are uneven again. I'm hoping once I've revised they will seem even again. If not, I may have to have my renovation renovated.

As for your question, I really never thought about that. I had posterior only surgery so the surgeon wasn't in the region. I'm sure you and the girls will be just fine.
