My son has a field trip three weeks after my surgery to see a movie and a week later - which would be four weeks after my surgery - he will be taking part in a school play - do any of you guys think that there might be a remote possibility of me attending either one of those events - especially the play he's taking part in, I'd love to be able to see him in that?

I am a little over 3 weeks post-op and have been out for a meal or 2 and to church and today, going to get taxes done. Take a pillow along anyplace you have to sit and yes, you would need a driver. I would think you should be able to do the play. The movie might be a long time to sit--depends on how well you can tolerate sitting.

Hi Lynette,
I agree w/ Debbe & Anne. I still take a cushion and a pillow in my trunk, oh a blanket too. I still can not sit on bleachers for any length of time, and some wooden back chairs bother me.
You'll know what you can and can't do when the time comes for everything, but sometimes when I didn't feel like taking a shower, doing hair and make-up, etc...Then I would get that extra shove and I was glad afterwards.
I just did it in stages. You'll know what I mean.

Make sure you sit in the back so you can get up and stand or walk around. That's how I got through events like that 4-6 weeks after surgery...and definitely a pillow!Kathy, 43

Yup Lynette,
I agree with the concensous here, I would skip the field trip. I took my dtr to the mall to see how she would do about 3 weeks after surgery. She was exhausted after about half an hour. Leaning on me for support. The play should be okay (taking a pillow to sit on sounds like a great idea)

They're right Lynette,
I forgot to mention that I took a pillow with me EVERYWHERE for the first 3-4 months. I used a small decorative pillow that I had in my living room. It was the perfect size to fit in this canvas tote bag that I had, and fit perfectly behind my back no matter what kind of chair I was sitting in.
Experiment with different pillows that you already have in your house.__________________________________________

Thanks everyone for all your replies - actually just found out that Alexander's play is three weeks after surgery on April 20th. So you guys think that after three weeks I should be able to go with my pillow to watch him?Lynette - 44 years old.

I really think you can still do it, Lynette ... at 3 weeks, what knocks the wind out of you is bathing, drying hair, dressing, makeup, etc.
Enlist a friend to help (at least with the hair), or just go for simplicity.
And like everyone else has said, bring a pillow!

I know your sons are fairly young--at that age, their plays are pretty short, right? I think you'll do just fine.__________________________________________

YAY!!! That is sooo fantastic - I want to be there to cheer my little 9-year-old on singing his little songs up on stage. So happy I can go see my baby perform. Thanks everyone - you're the best "other" family I could haveLynette - 44 years old.
