Just curious - I'm curious as to how many people have had to donate their own blood before undergoing surgery? Or, did you have another family member who was a match donate for you? I know they filter your blood and reuse your own - but I didn't know if it was best to have someone donate for you just in case? Thanks.

Rita, i donated 2 units, my surgeon asked for three, but my levels fell below the benchmark and therefore they crossmatched the third unit from bloodbank.
I had Cellsaver for my surgery. I lost 1 litre of blood and had 300ml returned to me. The decision for donating my own blood was entirely upto me.Vali
