Hiya, I was just wondering how long people are having to wait for their surgery? I mean once the decision to operate has been made?

I waited two months. It was my choice. I needed one month to get several things in order as i am self employed and the second month i dedicated to increasing my fitness for the op andto the collection of my own blood. I have Private Health Ins, therefore, I could pick my date, hospital and surgeon. If i was on the public system, i may have waited probably about two years.Vali

Hi, I waited about 3 months . At first, I thought it was too short and now I am wishing it was here so I could start feeling better. But I am getting my house in order so when I do come home it will be easier to keep clean and to find things
But I do wish March 11 was here

6 months wait our choice
Hi,
John will have his surgery in mid June. It was our choice and our's alone. The dr felt it could wait since he wants John the healthiest he can be given all the stuff he's got goin on inside that bending body of his.
Why June? John lives and dies for school. John has 9 specialists looking after all his 2ndary complications. He gets wacked out when he has to miss school for all his appointments. I schedule 90% of them during breaks and vacations but every once in a while he has to be seen during school hours and he really gets upset missing his friends and the regimen of school.
2nd, that's when John will be the healthiest. He'll be through his spring seasonal allergies that lead him to bronchitis and pneumonia.
3rd, that will get John plenty of time to heal up before school starts in September. We know from past experience that John takes about 1 1/2 times longer than the average person because of the energy demands that healing requires and his body cannot provide due to the neuromuscular disease.
3rd, I'm a teacher and I will be out of school then so I can be there to take care of him.
In some instances, it's a matter of personal preference. Sometimes, it's the dr, etc. There are a lot of variables that determine when surgery happens.Thoroughly disgusted with people in this group

I met Dr. Lonner on Jan. 6 and my surgery is Feb. 2. Not much time but it works out for me with my teaching job. Doing it now and having the additional summer months to recover will enable me to go back to work in Sept. Downside, is I'm only going to be able to donate 1 pint of blood and it has been insane trying to get everything ready, but there was really no reason not to take advantage of the open date. sometimes things are just meant to be.

That is wonderful.
I am not donating blood as I have very small veins and it is an impossible task to find one and therefore I will be using the blood bank.
That is around 3 weeks. You must be busy but it keeps you from having to dwell on it.
I will keep you in my prayers
