    Hi dancer4life,

I think your surgeon would be the best person to ask that question to. The ability to dance after fusion surgery is very variable depending on the individual and most likely the position and length of the fusion. Lots of kids, maybe most, still are able to dance after surgery, many better than before because they are more plumb....and able to do turns better.

My daughter's surgeon felt that it would be very difficult to be a professional ballerina with a fusion surgery, due to the flexibility of the spine that is required. Perhaps with a different type of dance other than the demanding requirements of ballet, it wouldn't be a problem at all. Ask your dance teachers too!

    Good luck to you!
