What can I expect going to see the neurosurgeon for the first time..

    Hi Megz,

I am so happy to hear that you will be seeing Dr. Rand sooner. I'm sure they had you at the top of their cancellation list. It's funny, but I don't remember too much about what I asked him the first time I saw him. I do know I asked him how many of these kinds of surgeries he does and for how many years. I also asked him what his success rate was. I was pretty ignorant about scoliosis at that time so I really didn't know what to ask. I'm sure others will have some good suggestions for you. You are in my thoughts. I hope the new pain Dr. will be better for you.

Things are looking up for you Megz.

I guess you could ask what degree your curves are.
        What levels will be fused.
How much of a correction he thinks he can get.
How long you will likely be in a) ICU and b) on the ward.
What you can and can't do, once you are home.
When your first post-op appt. will be (these things take planning.)
Whether he can be contacted in the event of something worrying happening, post op.
What meds should be discontinued prior to surgery.
Any pre-surgery suggestions for the best recovery, e.g. exercise, nutritional supplements etc.

There are probably many more, but I'm sure others will help with your list.

            Hi Megz,
He said better than 92% success. That was much better than what the Neurosurgeon told me - he said 60%.
