  • almost feeling normal

    Hi all,

Had a great day today, first day that I kind felt myself since the surgery. Took a shower, went for my walk, did some work at home for my job, then my sister picked me up and we just went to the drug store for a few things. The car is getting easier to get in and out of. I'm sure I'll pay a little for my great day, but it'll be worth it. My mind was not always focused on pain or discomfort today, I guess that's what I mean as feeling normal. Anyway I'll just get to bed a little earlier tonight and rest!

    Dolores:

That is so great to hear. You are about a week ahead of me so your message was especially encouraging. I hope the rest of your week is as 'normal'!

      Dolores,

Take it easy there! It's great to have those good days but remember your still very early in recovery. Not trying to rain on your wonderful day believe me. I say this because I am almost 3 months post op and have been doing good and out of no where had an awful day today, sore and sick. Not sure what makes me have these days every so often. That's just the way the ball bounces, but you are right is it worth the price sometimes:O).

Ahh, the ups and downs of recovery. Take it easy, you are still very early. Fusion takes time.

I remember the day I was sitting here and realized that about 30 years of scoli pain was gone.
It came suddenly, and really had to re-adjust to not having any pain. It was like popping a large balloon of tension, an exhale of relief......

Getting in and out of the car without bashing my head took a while. I guess that's the disadvantage of growing 4 inches after surgery and driving a small car.

It will get even better as time passes.

I can't help but ask, how long was it before you had that AHA! moment of no pain?

                Paula,
Its funny, I've posted the same statement in the past and no one has asked when???? When do we reach Nirvana Ed? Oh, its about another 500 feet down the trail. LOL

                Around 4 months post.

Of course, I still had the see-saw of pain, with the usual ups and downs, with constant improvement up to the present.

You also have to consider that I had an A/P, broken shoulder, and ping pong sized gall stones to deal with. I think that having the broken shoulder while recovering from my scoli surgeries, slowed me down quite a bit, and was probably a good thing.

Like "safe mode" on your computer LOL

No I do not. Out here in Nevada, with rising fuel and hay prices, this is now my mode of transport. 1/2 horsepower.

Dolores, I clearly remember the day I felt, with a real thrill, that I was having my first "normal" day. It was not followed by a bad day, it was followed by more and more good days, and every one of them gave me that same thrill. "Life is getting back to normal!" It still puts a smile on my face, just thinking about it.

I am so jealous to hear of you guys and your "near normal" days. I haven't had a normal day in quite some time now. Kinda bummed here. I'm in pain and my surgeon appt isn't until Aug 19th. The pain is not really bad until evening and first thing in the morning - or basically any time I'm on my feet long periods of time. But, I hear that's par for the course.
Anyway - good to hear there's light at the end of the tunnel (post surgery). Keep the good news comin......I love to hear how folks do so well after surgery...

                          Rita

Time passes quickly. Before you know it,it will be your turn up at bat.

One things for sure. When you live with debilitating pain for years, the odds of pain relief are greater and also with being satisfied with your surgical outcome.

Waiting for Dr Lenke is a good move.
