Hi, I have "mild" scoliosis which causes me quite a bit of pain and tightness in my back.
my lower shoulder is the right one, I also happen to be right handed. I was wondering whether thats normally the case that your lower shoulder is the same side as the hand you use most ?

I also tend to try and stretch the tight side of my back by stretching my arm over my head and bending the middle of my back the opposite way from the scoliosis bend.none of my osteopaths have suggested i do this, but it seems to be the natural thing to do to try and straighten it.

Does anyone know if this is the right thing to do or is it jusy straining my already strained muscles even more ?

Well I can answer the first part... I lean left, and am right handed, so your tilt has nothing to do with which hand you use. :)

The second part I am not sure on, I would not think that stretching mucles would hurt it, but I'm no expert on that. Others do use exercises, so I'll let them answer that one. :D

That's actually the way I've been told to stretch by my PT and specialist. it's also how some of the scroth exercises are based. So I'd say stretch as long as there's no pain.

FWIW...I'm right-handed and my left shoulder is lower.
Stretching and range of motion is key. Sounds very appropriate.
