John had his surgery on the 23rd and came home last night. Already moving around better. he can get sat down mostly by himself but not up from a chair or couch alone. his correction seems so far to be from 51 down to a 20 thoracic. He's having a terrible terrible time with constipation , his stomach is distended and hurts a lot. He spent an entire night and day in the hospital throwing up and finally got something for nausea about 14 hours into that. He's glad to be home though the childrens hospital is no place for someone to get any rest there is no day or night there, round the clock action. Mom's exhausted. His nurses were wonderful but I still don't like his doctor.
Thanks for all your well wishes! Good luck to eveyone having surgery soon ! Thank goodness for this forum it has been a real big help.

Great to hear John got such a good correction. Despite the hiccups, which are pretty normal, it seems John is on the mend. Hope you all manage to get some good sleep now! (It will help immensely!)

      Mary--

Sounds like John is doing fine. Just want you to know that after his surgery 8 months ago, we had to help my son up from a soft chair or couch for a while after he got home. He also had a distended stomach in the hospital and did not have a regular BM (he had an enema in the hospital) until about 2 weeks post-op. His ankles were swollen for a while as well. He could only eat very small portions at meals for a few weeks after he got home, and for a while there he was hungry enough to have to eat every hour or so just to fuel the healing process.

We found that getting back on a regular home diet (which for us is pretty high fibre) really helped. Hang in there, it gets better. Welcome to the other side.
