  • Off Topic...but wanted everyone to know.

I just finished booking my air fare for my move to Maui. We (my girls, my dog and myself) leave on 9/9/09. No more snow! No more stacking firewood! Flip flops everyday. I am so excited. Now I just have to pack up my house!

Oh it's no holiday...we are actually moving to Maui. Shoveling 4 feet of snow by myself just about did me in this last winter.

As a "coldie", I've been moving to warmer climes all my life and never regretted it. So congratulations! I'm sure you'll be very happy. Shrugging off the layers and feeling the sun on your skin all year round is wonderful.

you are doing what I hope to be doing as soon as I am done with my grad degree. I love hawaii and have wanted to move there for a long time. do you have family there, a job, a place to stay etc.? I am so excited for you and so jealous. It takes a lot of courage to make a move like this.
Congratulations and good luck and please send along many reports after the move has taken place.

                      Avis,
It is really just a fresh start for me and my girls (and the dog). We know no one on the island, haven't lined up jobs (I did apply for a transfer, but am going with or without it) and we are still lining up housing. I have wanted to move to Maui since 1994, so now I am going. I figure I can be poor anywhere so why not be poor where I really want to be.

                        Geish,

I have wanted to go since 1984 when I visited my cousin who lives on Oahu. You say exactly what I say, which is I would rather be poor somewhere I want to be where I don't have to worry about staying warm. If you want something that bad it will work itself out for you. I have a girlfriend who lived on the big island for 13 years and it was only because of a tragic loss that she moved back to CA and I know she regrets leaving the magic of Hawaii. To me, it is a magical place and just the smell and the feel of the air makes me feel better. There couldn't be a better place for the spine to be comfortable. After you get there you must email to let us know how you are doing. I wonder if there is anyone on this list that lives over in Hawaii on one of the islands? Are you shipping your car over?

We are shipping 2 cars (maybe 3 if we can't sell the karmann ghia convertible) and a crate of furnishings. It is less to ship than to try and sell and replace the furnishings. Maui has always felt like home to me and I really can't wait to go back. I will be contacting property managers within this next week or so to try and line up a house/condo that will let us have a lab/golden mix dog. I refuse to leave her behind. We started going through all of the things in the garage and deciding what's worth taking with us and what isn't worth the hassle. Lots to do and only a short time to get it done, all while working full time!

                              Hi Alicia,

You have a lot of moxie, going off to Hawaii without a job and a place to live, and I am soooo jealous. I know everything will work out for you. We have been to Hawaii twice and I cried the day we had to come home. It truly is heaven on earth. A more beautiful place I can't imagine. I wish you the best of everything.
