How long did it take for you to "see" the difference with the look of your back after surgery (it's only been 2 weeks since my surgery)? In other words, I have a thorasic hump (rt side) and noticed it's still there. Will this continue to improve - it's not as noticeable as it used to be, but it's still rather obvious.

Thanks!

I think it took over a month for me. It was waiting for the swelling to go down.

Hey Nervous! :) Yup, you're still swollen and your body probably will take a few months to readjust itself...muscles and bones. My left side of my waist still goes in more than my right, which is sorta dissapointing as I'd assume by almost 3 months, things should be where they should be. It does feel like it takes forever, but Ive learned that you've got to be patient w/this surgery.
Take care & happy Monday!

I was under the impression that when you are straightened on the table, that is as straight as you are going to get. I don't see how a rib hump could get smaller after surgery.

However, it does take months or even longer for the muscles and ligaments to get used to their new positions. Muscles on one side of the curve that were overly stretched have to get used to not being so stretched out, and vice versa.

Im sure your right Debbe....I got so much info from here and my Doc I get over loaded sometimes. My docs PA told me last week that my free L5 may be straightening itself out like doc Tribus intended it to & this could be causing some of my sciatic pain. They also told me that as the muscles start to un swell (which in turn would make them slightly smaller circumfrence wise I guess) the bone & tissue surrounding that muscle may shift alittle. That could be why my right side of my waist is still harder than the left side, causing it to be uneven?.Either that or Im just wishing thats the case ...or Im just screwed forever & will always have an unever waistline! lol

I had a really large hump on the right which was still big at my first surgery, but when I had my metal work removed, I had a chostoplasty done at the same time which shortened my ribs. It was a massive difference, i still have a hump but its less than half what it was before surgery. Unfortunately I still have wonky hips which I am doubtful will ever improve.

The hump looks ok when looking from the back, but still sticks out from the right side view.

I spoke to my surgeon's RN today and she said that it will get better as my muscles and 'stuff' move to where they 'should' be. I'm hoping that means in the next month or so.

Give that body a chance to relax and get use to it's new position...there is no multi-tasking here lol....it's going to do it's own thing. Not good for us A personality types I know. Awesome chat the other night! Chat again soon:O) Hang in there

its still swollen. mine continued to go down after a while.. i still have a slight hump, however when i say "hump" its no where even close to what it use to be! it looks like a straight back when i have a shirt on! so even though i notice it, noone else really can because its soo slim. Hey doc did a great job! not everything can be fixe ;) hope your recovery goes well!!

Great to hear, TNGirl! My back looked at lot like yours pre-op. Can you notice your hump when you have a shirt on and your looking at it from the side?
