I'm new to these forums. Wore a brace for 5 years as a kid. Now it's twenty years later and the curves are thoracic at 47 and lumbar at 43--lots of pain in the upper curve and migraines 3-4 per week. I just underwent a detethering procedure in Denver in December. Dr John Oro is a terrific doctor if anyone needs help with syringomyelia/Chiari type 0/tethered cord syndrome. I was off the pain meds within 1 1/2 weeks and feel great--well, except for the scoliosis.

Now I need to find a good orthopedic surgeon in the Salt Lake area.

Already went to Dr. Bauman here in town--not too impressed. Are there any other good ones?? I'm willing to travel if needed.

THANK YOU!
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

I know excellent pediatric orthopedic surgeons, but I'm not "up" on the adult specialists. I would avoid a general setting (like Dr. Bauman is in) and search for adult scoliosis specialists at some place like TOSH or a spine specialty center. You should also go to http://www.srs.org and search for a scoliosis specialist in SLC. That will be a good starting point.

My best,
