So, I went to the scoliosis clinic yesterday, and the doc is board certified in Physical Medicine. What he recommends at this time is intensive myofascial release combined with steroid injections. He identified numerous trigger points and indicated that I am a mess of muscle spasms. He believes that we can likely avoid surgery altogether, or at least hold off until my family is in a better position to have me out of service for a few months. I am hoping this works, I have 4 kids, and my younger 2 (6 and almost 3) both have Down syndrome, so I would very much like to be more functional and avoid surgery.

What do you think, am I on the right track?

How big are your curves??? If they are large they will definitely get worse. However you can get temporary relief from these measures until the time is right for you to do anything for it. Myofascial release is very good for spasms but will NOT arrest scoliosis. On the other hand if you are in so much pain and disability that you cannot care for your children that is something to figure out with the scoliosis specialists.

Hi LeeJo~

Myofascial release kept me going for years. Try it and see what you think. I does not fix or stop progression but for me it was the best thing offered thru Physical Therapy for temporary pain relief.:)
