Hi my name is Angela I am new here I have just been told that I have Scoliosis and that I have a 75 degree curve to my spine, I am 17 and I was just wondering if anyone knew what might happen because I got told that I might be too old to have anything done, and I am really worried about it. Thank you.

Hi Angela,

Welcome to the board.

Your scoliosis is not unlike many other teenagers. A 75 degree curve is not usually something that can't be improved or corrected. Unless a qualified scoliosis specialist (orthopedist) told you it was not something you could fix, then don't get upset yet. Hopefully you will be seeing a scoliosis specialist (preferrably a ped. orthopedist who specializes in treating scoliosis patients with similar issues you have) in the near future. Write down a list of questions you have. Only an orthopedist can give you a recommendation on your scoliosis. We can share our experiences with you, and many times that helps you feel less frightened. Knowing other people have walked in similar shoes helps. Take care and good luck!

Thanks for that carmell, yeah I am waiting for an appoinment to see someone at exeter Hospital that specilise in Scoliosis.
I got told yesterday when I went Hospital that they don't know if they can do anything, because I have nearly stopped growing.

what they mean by nothing they can do is no amount of corrective bracing will solve the problem because you are in fact done growing. The Ortho will help you greatly with this. good luck with everything.
