how can you really *avoid* revision in unfused areas?

i know its uncommon to get revision but what are some ways to prevent it?

    Hi...

My personal opinion is that your best bet is to choose a really experienced scoliosis surgeon, who knows how to select the correct levels for fusion.

I asked Dr. B the same thing at my one-year checkup, as I feel a bit vulnerable being fused to L5. He stressed using proper biomechanics for the rest of my life -- log-rolling in and out of bed, avoiding repetitive bending, no twisting ever. He also said that my unfused spine (aside from fusion issues) is subject to the wear and tear that comes naturally with aging. So I figure it's out of my hands -- I'm going to try to not do anything stupid and hope for the best!

I agree with Singer that you should protect your back. PT can really teach you biomechanics and help you to take care of your back. Now I did go to PT and learn this in 1999 was great for a while but then I just am not doing what I am suppose to and now I have a bulging disc between L4 and L5. I am fused to L4.

I am going back to PT and trying to take care of myself better this time and hope that it goes away. I don't want a 5th surgery!

              LynnMarie74,

Hello and welcome to the forum. I see we are about the same age.

You can go to the top left corner and click where it saids National Scoliosis Foundation Forums then it will take you to the main page. There you will see a lot of different categories and subcategories. If you click on let's just say for example Surgery Revision then it will show all the posts in there. Up on the top left corner it will say New Thread. Click that and you are on your way.

Take care and hope this helps out and not confuse you.
