Daughter diagnosed

My 12 year old was looked at by a specialist yesterday and what I had seen in her back was right-she has mild scoliosis.I dont know what degree but I saw the x-ray and its a noticeable mid curve.
I was pleased with how thorough the specialist was-he did a lot of tests on her.He did say there is a possibility that the muscle is under developed on the one side so she is to have PT to try and build it up.She is going to be looked at again in 3 months after some PT.
Its going to be hard as I am going to start my PT in 2 weeks so we will be up and down the hospital.
Im so glad I didnt ignore the signs as theres a chance now she wont get as bad as me and suffer the daily pain that I have.

My daughter is going to see the same PT that I have started to see.
I am really pleased as she seems to very clued up about posture which is what my daughter needs.
She pointed out that I am having a lot of low back ache because my hips are tilting too far back causing compression on the lower discs.
Hopefully she will be able to help my daughter.

I'm sorry to hear your news, but agree that it's good to have caught it early.

I find it really odd that you have had PT recomended and we never have - We live fairly close to you (I'm guessing as we're in the West Midlands too) and have seen 3 different consultants for Imogen's scoliosis. Not one of them has ever suggested or even mentioned PT.

It's such a nightmare that there seems to be no single accepted treatment Perhaps it's because Immy's curve was so big so young?

Anyway, good luck! Have I seen you before on the UK forum?

You are pre-op, right? If so, how are you qualified to dx a "mid" curve? What is that - in your words?

Is it just that different in the UK??

Hi Laura,
Yes I do use the UK forum too.
My daughter Amy has been reccomended for PT because her curve is in early stages and at the moment her one shoulder blade protrudes and sits lower than the other so they are guessing something is wrong with the development of her back on that side.
Because I have a 60 degree curve it is the start of preventing her from progressing.It was mentioned that it could be a seperate problem(I dont think so given my history) so all we can do at the moment is try PT.

Im no expert but I presume that mid-curve is middle of the back? Her curve on the x-ray is between her shoulder blades-like mine.
Does pre-op mean waiting for an op?, in that case Im not as have not been reccomended an op.
