  • One of the 2008 SRS presentations...

This is a link to a local newspaper article describing Axial Biotech's research presentation done this week at the 2008 Annual SRS conference being held in Salt Lake City. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_10437321

It describes a new way to measure if a child who has scoliosis, has a progressive form of scoliosis, and those who will likely grow out of their need for medical/surgical treatment/intervention. Interesting for those who have familial histories of scoliosis - knowing which person in the family has more risk of the scoliosis progressing and which may not progress, meaning fewer xrays and healthier outcomes (because of lack of exposure to xray radiation, etc.).

Isn't that interesting? My 3 kids and I all participated in that study, and a few months ago, they sent a letter to my middle child saying that they were really onto something with his sample, and needed more DNA for further testing. They wanted it overnighted that day, and as an incentive promised him a $50 gift card. He quickly spit in the little cup and off it went. He laughed at his brother and said that his DNA was worse more than his brother's. LOL

I am very interested in this test. When it's available, I'd love to have my 9 year old daughter get the test. (she also sent in DNA, but you don't get any results back on yourself.)

The newsletter I have from them says that the test is slated to be out in early 2009.
