  • Looking to hear from people who have had success with the Pettibon weighting system:

    Hello,

I am brand new to the group. This post is for anyone who has used/had success with the Pettibon weights, which I have read quite a bit about. What kind of success have you had? I am a 30 year old male, I know I have scoliosis to a slight degree, but not sure what the Cobb measurement is, as I have been too afraid to go get xrayed/measured.

With this system did you notice any rib hump reduction? (I have one) What about any correction of minor facial asymmetry? Any improvement that you have noticed? How long before you saw results?

When I did ask my GP about it, I know it's not severe enough for surgery, but I would like some improvement for aesthetic/comfort reasons. I would like to look more normal with my shirt off. Also, has anyone heard of a pectoral implant for chest concavity resulting from scoliosis. I know I have heard that some women have gotten breast implants to help mitigate the visual effects on the chest. I just want to appear more symmetrical and feel more comfortable wiht sitting/standing/sleeping.

Any information would be very helpful, again, specificlaly with success with the Pettibon weights. I live in the Seattle area.

    Thanks

Pettibon weights are used by the CLEAR Institute. Save your money vs. shelling a dime out to these quacks.

Go see a scoliosis specialist and have THEM examine your curve ... NOT your GP - and not a CLEAR associated chiro (or any chiro, for that matter). A GP and/or a chiro are completely unqualified to do any more than say "Yep. You have it. I'd advise you to see a specialist.".

Have can you say your curve is "slight" when you don't even know your Cobb and rotation? It isn't severe enough for surgery, but you have a rib hump and *chest concavity* and *facial asymmetry* from it??

You've been afraid to see a real doctor, but it doesn't bother you to try and look for ways to "spackle" the symptoms of a curve about which you have no details?

It may or may not be, but what if it's progressing? That boob job won't look all that great 20 years down the road.

If you want to see what people think of the system you inquired about, search on here for "CLEAR Institute", "Woggon", and "head weights" (among other things, including "QUACK").

    Go to a real doctor.

Wow, a lot of hostility there. As you might have seen, I was seeking a response from someone who had success. I know from reading your posts that you are against anything but surgery, and that's your choice. I will continue to wait to hear from someone who has had success with this system, I know they are out there, as I have read about them.

        Seahawks,

How is what I said hostile?

There is a wealth of data here from people who have tried CLEAR, and found it to be charlatanry.

Am I hostile because I pointed you to it? Because I agree it's bogus?

The only people who are going to respond to that treatment favorably are the ones who are doing it ... and haven't yet failed.

You don't even know the details of your curve - yet you're asking about an alternative treatment (and one believed bogus by most). You're talking about masking chest concavity and facial asymmetry with plastic surgery, yet you say your curve is "slight"? A "slight" curve doesn't cause either.

I said "see a real doctor" ... not a GP - or a chiro. Am I hostile because I told you a GP is not qualified to treat or follow your scoliosis?

It's your own health, and certainly your own choice to remain ignorant of the details. Personally, I think that's a bad plan ... but that's just me.

No, really, you don't ... but that's your choice. I don't believe you should choose a treatment until you know the specifics of your condition.

You've obviously made your mind up ... whether your knowledge is accurate or not. Best of luck to you.

        Regards,
        Pam

I don't think anything can help with facial asymmetry. No one has perfectly symmetrical face you might be the only one noticing yours.

I have a minor asymmetry and I'm the only one that notices.

            Dear Seahawks

Please do a search on this forum for members personal experiences with the treatment you are interested in and you will be better informed since knowledge is really power.
Search for Clear Institute and Pettibon; you can also contact those members directly to have your questions answered.

We are not hostile. Many of us have walked a very painful path and want to prevent others from making the same mistakes we have.
