  • Dr. Lenke feedback please.

My name is Reggie and I am having surgey, posterior lumbar fusion and osteotomy by Dr. Lenke on Oct.20 this year. I am just looking for more feedback on what to expect. I have read Cheyl's thread and it is very imformative. Can anyone add to their experience with Dr. Lenke and Barnes Hospital in St. Louis?

    Thanks,
    Reggie

    Hi Reggie,

I had surgery with Dr. Lenke on June 30th of this year. I am 20 years old and was fused from T3-L1 for kyphoscoliosis. From my experience, I would highly recommend Dr. Lenke. Although surgery was tough, especially the four weeks right afterwards, I really feel awesome now considering what I've been through. I had a relatively good experience with the hospital, but I would not recommend having surgery anywhere near a major holiday (for me July 4th was soon after), as staffing for nurses was stretched a bit thin in my opinion. Hearing others experiences at Barnes though, I don't think that's normal and you should be OK with an Oct. 20th date. If you want any more details feel free to PM me! There is also an old thread under the physicians category called "Dr. Lawrence Lenke, M.D." or something close to that that I know a lot of his patients have posted in.

I did a consultation with Dr. Lenke and WOW he is knowledgeable about scoliosis. He could tell me things I'd never been told before and I was quite impressed. I ended up using another Dr. in NYC because I had a better support system there.

If you do a search on "Lenke" using the search tab at the top of the page on the forum, you will be able to read LOTS of information about Dr. Lenke and patients' experience with him.

Best of luck, Reggie! I think you are in excellent hands.

        7 weeks post-op

str8, I am 7 weeks post op with Dr. Lenke (8-08-08).(p.s. I am a 47yo female) He did a posterior spinal fusion T1-L3, with 4 osteotomies. (dx was Sheuermann's kyphosis 94 degree curve at time of surgery). Dr. Lenke is by far the best doctor that I consulted in the last 6 years ( have been to 4 other specialist) It is true that the first 4 weeks after surgery are tough, I have hit a point that I am starting to feel that I will be a normal person again!! I am still very limited on my activities, that is the hardest part for me. I have always been a very independant person and having to rely on my boyfriend to do everything has been a humbling experience for me. Make sure that you have someone to be with you for a couple of weeks after your surgery. I go back to see Dr. Lenke on 10/22 for my 1st followup. It is a 7 hour drive for us to get to St. Louis. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to pm me!! Good luck on your surgery and God bless
